In September, Bocelli sang before Pope Benedict XVI and an audience of more than half a million people in Loreto for the Agorà meeting of young catholics.
The album “Vivere – The best of” is launched in the evocative scenario of the Teatro del Silenzio, in Lajatico, Andrea’s birthplace. Once again the concert is made into a TV Special for the US network PBS, with resounding success, and becomes a DVD with the participation of international guests such as David Foster, Lang Lang, Kenny G, Sarah Brightman, Heather Headley, Chris Botti, Elisa and Laura Pausini, with the title “Vivere – Live in Tuscany”.
In July Andrea performs at the Memorial Concert for Diana, Princess of Wales, at Wembley Stadium in London, and in September he sings at the funeral of his friend Maestro Luciano Pavarotti.
On 13th May, Bocelli sings at the “Teatro delle Muse” in Ancona, a concert in support of the non-profit organization “Fondazione Francesca Rava – N.P.H. Italia Onlus” to collect funds to build the “House of Little Angels”. This N.P.H. Rehabilitation Centre for disabled children provides physiotherapy, school activities and a hot meal for hundreds of children otherwise without hope, as well as a prosthesis programme for amputee children.
The Petit Messe Solennelle is performed in Catania, guest stars include maestro Marcello Rota and Andrea Bocelli. A great event for its splendid simplicity and intimate performance.
The album Amore (Amor) is nominated for the Billboard Latin Music Awards and wins the “Latin Pop Album of the year”
